MBTI & Passive House Canada Partner to Launch Manitoba’s First Green Training Program for the Trades
Manitoba Building Trades Institute and Passive House Canada are proud to announce the partnership of a new energy efficient training program: Passive House for the Trades. Set to start Wednesday April 21 2021, This five-week course offered exclusively through MBTI will give skilled trades professionals in Manitoba a practical understanding of standardized sustainable building practices and Passive House Certification standards.
“The way we build is, by necessity, changing in order to meet our climate goals,” says Tanya Palson, Manager of External Relations at Manitoba Building Trades. “It is critical that Manitoba has training available for the tradespeople who will be physically building to meet new design standards.”
Passive House for the Trades will combine in-class lectures as well as hands-on training modules focused on building ecology, economic efficiency, insulation, ventilation, quality assurance, and building envelop specialization – all while considering the environmental impacts of construction projects.
International Passive House Standard is recognized as the proven best way to build for health, comfort, affordability, resiliency and energy efficiency in residential, institutional and commercial buildings. Members of Manitoba’s skilled trades workforce who choose to complete the program’s Certified Passive House Tradesperson exam will receive special accreditation and be listed in the directory on the Passive House and international Passive House Association websites.
“The field for Passive House tradespeople is growing and providing significant opportunities for specialization in sustainable, low energy construction” says Luiz Bezerra, Education, Training and Development Manager at Passive House Canada. “This partnership with MBTI takes our trades course to a new level in Manitoba allowing us to meet the needs of this growing market”
Passive House for the Trades is intended for experienced tradespeople, general contractors, and developers involved in energy efficiency building. Interested participants can register at mbtrades.ca/passivehouse.
