Try the Trades at the Manitoba Building Trades Exhibition Hall
June 22, 2020
With the opening of Manitoba Building Trades Institute this fall, students from across the province will be invited to come Try The Trades™ at the Manitoba Building Trades Exhibition Hall.
The hall will be a state-of-the-art interactive experience featuring 13 interactive booths, staffed by highly experienced skilled trades professionals, covering over 30 different skilled trades professions in the construction industry.
Students from grades 9-12 can explore a future career in skilled construction trades by participating in a variety of hands-on demonstrations during 3-hour immersion workshops. Future programming will include 8 hour to 16 week-long immersive training with the possibility of granting high school credits.
Previously, high school students in Manitoba would have to wait for annual career fairs to explore the skilled construction trades. At the Manitoba Building Trades Exhibition Hall, students will have an opportunity to Try the Trades all year at no cost and in greater depth.
To enhance the experience for student visitors, programming will also utilize MBTI’s AR and VR technology and one of Canada’s largest collections of training simulators. The introduction of advanced technology will encourage participants to be fully immersed in the learning environment.
Through Try the Trades and other programming, MBTI aims to increase workforce participation and entry rate into the industry by creating an environment that actively engages students and improves the quality, scope and depth of exposure to the skilled construction trades—preparing them for future opportunities.
