MBTI Announce New Urban Agriculture Day Camp for Charity

June 28, 2021

WINNIPEG – The newly opened Manitoba Building Trades Institute (MBTI) announces their summer day camp sessions Urban Agriculture 4 Kids. The weeklong day camp is for kids who love nature and want to learn more about planting and growing food in the city. All net proceeds from the camp will be donated to Career Trek, a charity supporting youth education and career development.

MBTI is home to a fully operational Aquaponics Greenhouse, an Outdoor Garden and an Apiary. Sustainability is a key pillar of MBTI’s operations and values. The extensive renovation of a new facility created an avenue for this investment in food production and learning facilities.

“We wanted to do our part and create an experience for kids in our community over the summer,” says Carmen Grey, Horticultural Manager at MBTI. “Kids are already learning about climate change and the importance of local food production, so we think there will be a lot of interest in a day camp like this.”

MBTI is a current partner of Career Trek and wanted to assist the charity in raising additional funds for their youth career programs. “We are thrilled to see this unique day camp get off the ground with our partners at MBTI,” says Rhonda Taylor, CEO at Career Trek. “Funds raised will allow us to continue our own summer programs for youth who may not have the opportunity to attend a camp otherwise.”
